NFL Votes On Secondary Ticket Vendor

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — NFL League owners cast ballots last week on which of six secondary ticket vendors would be tapped to provide exclusive resale services for the league.

Currently, teams each have developed arrangements with numerous secondary ticket exchange websites, but the NFL seems to be moving expeditiously to change that, possibly having a plan in place as early as the Superbowl early next year, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported.

According to the Journal, six companies responded to the request for bids, including StubHub, Viagogo, Ticketmaster , TicketsNow, Seat Exchange and Flash Seats.

Presently, Ticketmaster's TicketExchange service is the most widely used by NFL teams, with 15 of 32 teams, followed by StubHub which is pacted with 8 teams. 2 teams, the Pats and the Steelers are without secondary ticket vendors and the Patriots are currently engaged in litigation against StubHub over ticket markups.

The NFL seems to smell the money though. "A new venture like this could represent a new opportunity that we may not even be aware of today," Steve Tisch, co-owner of the New York Giants, told the Journal. "In terms of a startup business, it has tremendous potential."

The NFL will reportedly make an announcement on their choice for ticketing services later this month. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
