New York Gets New Cabaret Room

The Julie Wilson Room, named after cabaret singer Julie Wilson, is New York's newest cabaret. Located at the Hideaway Restaurant (32 West 37th Street), also the home of the Red Blazer II, the upstairs club will have a Thursday-Friday schedule. Opening on Sept. 5, co-owner Denis Carey believes that the room was a natural for cabaret "because it never felt like a pure jazz room to me. It was too pretty."

Wilson will probably perform in her namesake room three times a year including New Year's Eve. Future bookings include Lainie Kazan, Tom Wopat, Amanda McBroom, Wesla Whitfield, Kristin Chenoweth and Mark Murphy.
