New Name For San Jose Civic

SAN JOSE (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Country artist Wynonna Judd teamed up with Nederlander Concerts and officials from the City of San Jose and Team San Jose to reveal the newly renamed City National Civic.

Formerly known as the San Jose Civic Auditorium, the historic 3,000-seat venue located in downtown San Jose is owned by the city and booked by Nederlander Concerts.

The five-year naming rights deal, struck between City National Bank, Front Row and Nederlander Concerts will see the City of San Jose receive $870,000 with Front Row and Nederlander Concerts receiving $330,000 from the agreement, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported.

“The City National Civic is a fantastic venue for concerts, special events and conference general sessions and we look forward to welcoming even more visitors to Downtown San Jose as a result of the recent investment by City National Bank,” said Karolyn Kirchgesler, Team San Jose chief executive officer. “We look forward to a successful partnership with City National Bank and couldn’t be happier with their investment back into the local community.”

First opened in 1936, the venue has played host to numerous major artists, including Duke Ellington, Buddy Holly, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Cream, Frank Sinatra and the Rolling Stones. The venue completed a major $15 million dollar refurb in 2012 with a list of upgrades that included a new lighting and sound package, new exterior lighting, new concessions, restoration of restrooms, installation of a Wall of Fame and new signage, new seats, new interior and exterior painting to building operational items including boiler replacement, upgraded dressing rooms, addition of ADA accessible elevator shared with the Montgomery Theater, new security system, new heating system and seismic upgrades. – Staff Writers
