More Than 1.1. Million 2014 World Cup Tickets Already Sold

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The second round of ticket sales for the 2014 FIFA World Cup ended after just 7 hours, bringing ticket sales for the event up to almost 1.1 million.

The first round of tickets, allocated through a random draw process, saw nearly 890,000 sold with the remaining tickets available in second round allocated on a first-come, first serve basis. About 62% went to Brazilians and 38% to international buyers with the top five nations were Brazil followed by the USA, Australia, England and Argentina, FIFA said.

Due to high demand with 3.6 million page views, ticket applicants had to wait an average of 45 minutes in the waiting room until they were processed in the order of access of the site to ensure fair access to the ticketing tool. However, the system operated without any problems during the sales process.

Further tickets for the 64 football matches that make up the World Cup will be made available as soon as the second sales phase kicks off on 8 December 2013, once the final schedule for the games has been established. 16% of the tickets for each game will be reserved for the fans of the teams involved, broken down into 8% of the stadium capacity per team.
