(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The 16-year-old Masquerade nightclub in Atlanta will be shutting down sometime in the near future, owner Dean Riopelle told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Riopelle made the decision when he learned that the parking lot next door had been rezoned for condominiums, and assumed that his new neighbors wouldn’t appreciate the rock club as much as the empty parking lot did.
He told the paper that he hopes to close on a sale to a developer in January and shut the doors within three to eight months after that. The space will most likely be filled with restaurants.
“When I bought this place in 1989, this was a blighted area,” he told the AJC. “It’s now a hot area.”
Riopelle said he may seek new space in metro Atlanta to reopen the club in the future. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
