Martin Short To Sub For Matthew Broderick In "The Producers"

When Matthew Broderick takes his six-week leave this fall from "The Producers" to make the ABC-TV remake of "The Music Man," he will be replaced by Martin Short. Broderick will return to "The Producers" to fulfill his one-year contract.

Interestingly, Short was bandied about for the role of Leo Bloom two years ago but never jumped on it, which was then offered to Broderick. When Broderick finishes his commitment to the musical, Short will take over from Broderick permanently.
