Major Labels Sue Aurous, The 'Popcorn Time For Music' Responds

(Hypebot) – The RIAA and major labels have a new target, the so called "Popcorn Time For Music," Aurous. And whatever your position, it's hard to see how Aurous comes out the winner.

The RIAA filed suit on behalf of the major record labels against music file sharing app Aurous for “willful and egregious copyright infringement” just hours after it was released in alpha. “This service is a flagrant example of a business model powered by copyright theft on a massive scale”

A defiant Aurous tweeted in response:

"Don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere, empty lawsuits aren’t going to stop the innovation of the next best media player… the @RIAA principle complaint is that we’re ‘profiting’, anyone see any ads? We sure don’t."

That defiant tone alongside evidence that Aurous is pulling many of the tracks that its delivering to users free via a Spotify-like interface come from known pirate sites like Russia's Pleer and MP3Skull, will make it very difficult for the new site to make a deal with the RIAA and major labels.
