Live Performance Australia Opens The Books

MELBOURNE (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Live Performance Australia has just finished compiling their ticket and revenue survey for 2005 and by all accounts, it looks to have been a big year down under.

The analysis looked at ten key categories: classical, contemporary, musical theatre, theatre, ballet & dance, opera, children's performance, special events, multi-category festivals and single category festivals. In these categories, analysts looked at data compiled from ticketing companies and major performing arts groups.

The survey reports that in 2005, the gross total for box office receipts totaled $834.3 million derived from an audience of 13.7 million event attendees.

The LPA hopes to leverage this information in developing strategies to lobby the government to reduce "barriers" to investment and increase tax incentives akin to the ones geared towards the film industry. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
