Live Nation Announces Layoffs Ahead Of Gibson Closing

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Live Nation is laying off as many as 500 people ahead of the planned closing of the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City next month.

According to the Los Angeles Business Journal, the 6,100-seat concert hall is being shuttered in order to make room for a new Harry Potter-themed attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The layoffs, which affect 506 people were first revealed in a filing with California's Employment Development Department with the layoffs expected between July and December, 2013.

The Gibson was first opened in 1972 as an outdoor venue called the Universal Amphitheatre, but was converted to an indoor theatre in a major overhaul in 1982. In 2005, the theatre adopted the Gibson moniker after signing a naming rights deal with the Gibson Guitar Corporation. – Staff Writers
