HAMBURG, Germany (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The German leg of the worldwide Live Earth concerts on 7/7/07 recorded a loss of $1.3 million after total costs of artists’ accommodations and transport were tallied.
Ticket sales generated $1.46 million and merchandising and sponsoring drew $262,000, resulting in revenues of $.1.72 million, organizers told Billboard.
Of the 45,000 tickets available, only 29,000 were sold 2,500 given away to sponsors and media.
The costs of artists’ accommodations and travel totaled $2 million, however, leaving the festival in the red. Additional fees incurred by the Live Earth organization put the event even further behind.
“So we ended up with a minus of about €200,000 ($276,000). Additionally, we had to pay in advance an amount of €750,000 ($1.03 million) to the Live Earth organization,” Thorsten Kausch, managing director of the state-owned organizing company Hamburg Marketing GmbH, told Billboard.
The deficit will be covered by the city of Hamburg. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
