Leeds Festival Refused License

The Carling Leeds Festival, scheduled for August and promoted by Mean Fiddler, has been refused a license,
having failed to make improvements to the management and control of the
event.

Local residents as well as the environmental department, complained of overflowing toilets and urinals at last year's festival.

At the licensing meeting, Councillor Graham Hyde said: "The panel are concerned
that, at previous applications for a public entertainment licence for the Leeds Festival
at Temple Newsam, certain assurances were given that improvements would be
made to the control and management of the site. It is clear, as is admitted by Mr
Melvin Benn of Mean Fiddler, that these improvements were not made.

"The panel has no confidence that the assurances made today will be carried through
and, therefore, the application is refused."

Mean Fiddler can appeal to magistrates within 21 days.
