K-Pop Group Kara Disbands

SEOUL, South Korea (CelebrityAccess) — Veteran K-pop group Kara has announced that after a nine-year run (an eternity in the fickle world of K-pop) they were disbanding.

The group's record label DSP Media revealed that three of the group's remaining four members would not be renewing their contracts. Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, Goo Hara will all be moving on to pursue other opportunities, while Heo Youngji, who joined Kara in 2014, would remain under contract with the label, according to the Korea Times.

Kara, known for their sugary synth pop style, debuted in 2007 as the spiritual successors to the label's previous girl group Fin.K.L and generated hts such as "Honey," "Damaged Lady," and "Mister."

After gaining popularity in South Korea, the group helped to lead the expansion of the K-pop style into Japan when, in 2010, they signed to Universal Music Japan's subsidiary label, Universal Sigma, and became the first Korean girl group to tour arenas in the island nation. – Staff Writers
