Japanese Pop Star Critically Injured In Attack

TOKYO (CelebrityAccess) — A Japanese pop idol was left in critical condition after being stabbed repeatedly by a fan before a concert at Solid EventSpace in Tokyo.

According to the BBC, 20-year-old Mayu Tomita received nearly two dozen wounds to her neck and chest after she was allegedly attacked by 27-year-old Tomohiro Iwazaki, who was arrested at the scene.

When questioned by police, he reportedly said that he lost his temper when she didn't respond to him regarding a gift he had sent her.

According to the BBC, Tomita had previously complained to police about Iwazaki after he started posting apparently obsessive comments about her on social media.

Tomita had been working as a pop star and actor while completing her college studies. She appeared in several television projects, including the Hannah Montana-like "Secret Girl" and the tokusatsu drama "Kamen Rider Fourz."

Confusingly, Ms. Tomita shares a name with another J-Idol who was formerly a member of the hugely popular girl-group collective AK48, but they are two different people. – Staff Writers
