Japanese Companies To Broadcast Live Concerts To Movie Theaters


TOKYO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Mobile phone carrier KDDI Corp. has announced that they are teaming up with Aeon Entertainment Co., a unit of retail giant Aeon Co. to broadcast music performances live at movie theatres.

According to the Tokyo Times, the new service, called Live'Spot hopes to attract fans who want a live music experience but are unwilling, or unable to afford the high prices of many concert tickets. Live'Spot hopes to re-create the feeling of a real concert through the use large screens and high-quality audio equipment found in modern Japanese movie theaters.

While no official prices were announced, tickets are expected to be approximately half of the price for actual concert tickets.

Japanese jazz singer Juju's will debut the service with a broadcast of her Aug. 15th performance at the Blue Note Tokyo. The performance will be shown in 60 theaters across Japan.

Japan's domestic market for non-movie content shown at theaters has expanded in recent years and was estimated at $50 million in 2012. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
