Jagger, KISS Out At DC Concert Fundraiser; Bette Midler, Others Added

Mick Jagger and KISS, previously announced as performers at the Oct. 21 benefit concert at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, will not perform.

Publicist Fran Curtis said the announcement about Jagger was premature, as he never committed to perform. KISS pulled out due to lead singer Paul Stanley facing hip surgery.

Jagger is performing the night before at another concert fundraiser, "Concert for New York City" at Madison Square Garden." The latest additions to the event include David Bowie, Elton John and U2's Bono and the Edge.

Stanley had initially postponed the surgery in order to perform. "However, after starting initial physical preparation, it became apparent that increasing pain and the possibility of further damage would not allow him to meet the intense physical demands of a KISS performance," according to a statement.

In the meantime, Bette Midler, Pink, Faith Evans and America have been added to previously announced line-up that includes Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, Destiny's Child, Usher, Rod Stewart, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin, Train, P. Diddy, Goo Goo Dolls, James Brown, Al Green, Aerosmith, Huey Lewis & the News, Carole King and others. Additional artists will be announced as they are confirmed.
