It’s Early August – That Means The Maine Lobster Festival Has Arrived

PORTLAND, Maine (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Ask Chuck Kruger, the lobster festival vice president in charge of entertainment, what is on his mind during the first week of August, and one can be assured it’s the Maine Lobster Fest.

What started in 1947, as a one day festival, has turned into a world class event. It is now held over a three day period, where people come from all over the world to partake in its pleasures.

This weekends schedule of events included a lobster diaper derby, a lobster eating contest and a lobster crate race.

Headlining the entertainment at the festival this year was Grammy award winner bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs, along with Kentucky Thunder, Dickey Betts, Rick Derrigner , and SheDAISY

One new wrinkle this year was the Maine Lobster Festival Train, which made daily round trip excursions from Brunswick to Rockland.

Officials say all 880 seats on the train were sold out.

Festival organizers say attendance this year was up 12 percent over last year.

They also say the festival broke the previous record of 25-thousand, 500 pounds of lobsters being sold. That record was eclipsed by 11 a-m Sunday, but final lobster numbers are still being tallied.

The festival is held each year in Rockland. The first festival, in 1947, featured all-you-could-eat lobster for a dollar. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
