International Songwriting Competition Announces Winners For 2012

NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced the winners for the 2012 edition of the contest. ISC's Grand Prize was awarded to Joshua Hanson of Irvine, California, USA, for his song "Monsters With Misdemeanors," which was entered in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category.

That grand prize win nets Hanson a cool $25,000 in cash (US) and an additional $40,000 in merchandise and services. You might recognize the grand-prize winning Hanson as the frontman and songwriter for the award-winning indie folk/rock trio Yellow Red Sparks.

A total of 68 winners from 119 countries worldwide were selected from over 20,000 entries, and for the first time this year, more than half of the winning submissions originated from outside of the U.S. Past winners of the contest include Gotye, The Band Perry, Kasey Chambers, Amanda Palmer, Gin Wigmore, King Charles, Kimbra, Passenger, Andrew Bird, and numerous others.

Winners were selected by a panel of judges drawn from both the creative and business side of the music industry. The list of judges includes Tom Waits; Nas; Janelle Monae; Martina McBride; Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks; Black Francis; Avicci; Tegan & Sara; Susan Vega; Richard Stumpf (President, Imagem Music US); Bruce Iglauer (Founder/President, Alligator Records); Alison Donald (Co-President, Columbia Records UK); Dan McCarroll (President, Capitol/Virgin Label Group); Steve Lillywhite (Producer) and Monte Lipman (President, Universal Republic Records) among others.
