HALIFAX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A lot of people were left wondering what happened after Canadian singer Celine Dion abruptly pulled the plug on a planned Halifax date last Friday, stating that the venue was "not suitable." Now a story in the Canadian press is shedding some light on the reasons behind the pull-out.

According to the story, Celine's manager and husband Rene Angelil pointed to a negative reaction in the Halifax press for the breakdown.

"The mayor of Halifax asked if Celine would sing in his city next summer. We accepted, but before the 20,000 tickets went on sale, the journalists there wrote that this was a place for the Rolling Stones, for rock, not for Celine Dion," Angelil told Quebecoise news outlet La Presse, adding that "At the same time, Thursday, in Dublin, we sold 54,000 tickets for a concert with Celine in a stadium in June. So, if we are not welcome in Halifax, we won't go there."

Regardless of what the good citizens of Halifax think about Dion's cool factor, the singer is doing big business with her other dates. Her tour stop at The Bell Centre in Montreal reportedly sold 80,000 tickets in just under 35 minutes. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
