The Grateful Dead will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the third annual
Jammy Awards on October 2 in New York City; at Roseland Ballroom;
Widespread Panic lead this year's Jammy nominees with four.
Jammy Awards will be presented in nine categories: Studio Album of the Year;
Live Release of the Year; Live Performance of the Year; Tour of the Year; Song of
the Year; New Groove Award; Fan Web Site of the Year; Mimi Fishman
Community Service Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award Jammy Award.
Winners are selected by popular vote after nomination by a panel of industry
professionals. Voting will take place online at Jammys.com, Jambands.com, and
Relix.com, and by paper ballot in Relix Magazine. Voting began July 15 and ends
September 25. Over 100,000 votes are expected to be tallied this year.
"While other award shows are about red carpets and long-winded acceptance
speeches, this one is about the music," said Peter Shapiro, executive producer of
The Jammys since its inception three years ago. Shapiro was the owner of the
ill-fated Wetlands Preserve in New York, which recently closed.
