Global Spectrum Promotes Brett Mitchell And Doug Higgons


(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Global Spectrum promoted both Brett Mitchell and Doug Higgons to regional directors.
Mitchell will expand his role as general manager at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, KS, to oversee the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, IA, and future venues in the mid-west for Global Spectrum. Higgons, who is also general manager for the Ted F. Constant Convocation Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, will oversee the University of Central Florida's multi-purpose venue and their proposed new arena for the university, and future venues in the south-east for Global Spectrum.

Prior to joining Global Spectrum in 2001 to oversee the opening of the Overland Park Convention Center, Mitchell was facility director for South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, UT from 2000-01. He also spent six years at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT, from 1994-2000 in various capacities, including director of operations, director of events and event manager. He was also an event services manager at Saltair Pavilion in Salt Lake City in l993 and promotions coordinator at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City from l992-93.

Mitchell, an Iowa native, received a degree in sports business management from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, in l990. He is also a graduate of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) School in Oglebay, WV, where he served as a class representative for the two-year program. He serves on the board of directors of the Overland Park Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A 12-year facility and events management veteran, Higgons joined Global Spectrum in l994 as a marketing specialist at the company's headquarters, prior to being named marketing manager at the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Auditorium. He has also served as the company's assistant general manager at the Whittemore Center Arena, assistant general manager at the Colorado Springs World Arena, assistant general manager at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass., and project manager for the University of Rhode Island's Convocation Center.

Higgons received a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts in l992. He is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM) and a graduate of its Oglebay School for Public Assembly Management. He is also a member of IAAM's university committee. He has served as a member of the Salt Lake Sports Center County Advisory Board and an adjunct instructor at Old Dominion University's Sports Management Department. –Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
