George Strait Returns To RodeoHouston

After a four-year absence, the most requested entertainer at RodeoHouston will return. George Strait will headline the March 3, 2002, concert that will mark RodeoHouston's final performance in Reliant Astrodome.

The full-length concert will be the culmination of a farewell party celebrating the 37 years Reliant Astrodome has served as the home of RodeoHouston.

To ring in RodeoHouston's new home, Strait will return to Houston in 2003 as the Rodeo's first performer in the new Reliant Stadium.

"We are excited that George Strait will be returning to RodeoHouston to cap off our show and our final Reliant Astrodome performance," said P. Michael Wells, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo president. "And when we move into our new home in 2003, George will be right there with us kicking off Rodeo excitement in the new Reliant Stadium."

After being a last-minute replacement for an ailing Eddie Rabbitt at RodeoHouston in 1983, Strait went on to fill the Astrodome year after year for 15 years. Strait was honored by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1996 with his name on its Star Trail in commemoration of entertaining more than 1 million RodeoHouston fans — a feat only two entertainers have accomplished.
