Freedom Hill Struggle Continues Over Monument

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — More controversy has arisen at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, already the center piece of an ongoing contentious legal dispute between Hillside Productions which runs the amphitheater and the Macomb County Government.

According to the Macomb Daily, the legal scuffle, which includes a $250 million dollar legal dispute over revenues has now extended to encompass a proposed monument to Macomb County police and firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The placement of the monument would have put it well-away from the amphitheater, in a different section of the park but the plan has been blocked after attorneys for the county advised president of the county Parks and Recreation Commission Dino Bucci, that the project must wait.

Bucci contends that he isn't against the idea of the monument, but that the current legal dispute needs to be resolved before the plan can proceed. "Am I against it? Absolutely not," Bucci told the Macomb Daily, adding that the monument had approval from the Commission already.

Hillside Productions asserts that the monument delay is a tactic by the county to paint them in a bad light, stating in a recent letter to Bucci that the delay was an "attempt to paint Hillside in a bad light," Macomb Daily reported.

"Hillside is indeed saddened that Macomb County has chosen to use the litigation between Hillside and Macomb County as an excuse to deny the approval of this very worthy memorial," said Hank Riberas, a Hillside spokesman.

The monument was being financed by private donations, unrelated to the venue. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
