Former Allman Brother Dan Tolman Dies

SARASOTA, FL (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) – Southern Rock guitarist Dan Toler died on February 25th 2013, at his home in Sarasota Florida after against (ALS) Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

While best known for his work with the Allman Brothers Band in the 1980s, Toler first made a name for himself playing guitar as a member of Dickey Betts & Great Southern band, performing on their albums Dickey Betts & Great Southern and Atlanta's Burning Down.

In the 1980s, Toler and his brother David "Frankie" Toler joined the Allman Brothers Band, performing on their album, Enlightened Rogues, in 1979; Reach for the Sky in 1980 and Brothers of the Road in 1981. Dan's brother David "Frankie" Toler also joined the group for albums including 1987's I'm No Angel and 1988's Before the Bullets Fly.

Other projects that Dan Toler participated in included a reformed version of The Great Southern, as well as a jazz fusion with Mark Pettey. In 2005, Dan signed on with The Renegades of Southern Rock whose members included George McCorkle of The Marshall Tucker Band, John Townsend from the Sanford-Townsend Band and Jack Hall from Wet Willie and then TGZ with Ron Gary and Ed Zinner and then Dan teamed up again with John Townsend in 2009 and formed the Toler/Townsend Band.

Toler is survived by his wife Debbie and their daughter Danielle Franz, as well as her husband and his other in law. Memorial arrangements are pending but will be announced soon. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
