Famed Concert Pianist's Wife Charged In The Deaths Of Two Daughters

BENBROOK, TX (CelebrityAccess) — The estranged wife of Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko is facing two counts of capital murder over the death's of the couple's daughters.

According to Reuters, Sofya Tsygankova, 31, has been charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of daughters, Nika, 5, and Michela, 1.

Kholodenko reportedly discovered them in their bedrooms at their mother's house when he went to pick up his daughters. He also discovered Tsygankova with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds, Reuters said.

She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries and will be undergoing mental evaluation, Benbrook police Commander David Babcock told a news conference.

"The loss of my children will be with me forever. But I would like to say that I feel the support of the Fort Worth community and all people who are sending me messages all over the world," Kholodenko said in a statement on Friday evening.

"Wherever I go after this tragedy, my heart will stay with the people here of Fort Worth and my daughters will rest in this soil," he added.

Kholodenko and Tsygankova were married in 2010, but filed for divorce in November, 2015, according to court records obtained local media.

A gifted pianist, Kholodenko won the gold medal and all special prizes at the Fourteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2013. – Staff Writers
