Don McLean Postpones Australian Tour Following Domestic Violence Charges

SYDNEY, New South Wales (CelebrityAccess) — American Pie singer Don McLean has postponed his upcoming tour of Australia as he faces a series of domestic violence charges in the U.S.

McLean was due to start his 10-date tour on March 14th at Wrest Point Entertainment Centre, Hobart.

A rep for McLean told Billboard that the shows will still happen on the same dates, just in 2017 instead of this year, as McLean and his family “work at reuniting.”

“Don McLean graciously accepts the willingness of the promoter to postpone the current tour to exactly the same time in 2017 in order to allow Don McLean and his family time to work at reuniting,” reads a statement issued on McLean’s behalf, according to Billboard. “This is an unprecedented moment in the family history. Don McLean thanks all his fans for their patience and love and he looks forward to seeing them next year.”

McLean faces six charges related to domestic violence after he was arrested in January. His wife has filed a request for protection and alleged years of abuse before the arrest, however, neither party is seeking a divorce. McLean pled not guilty earlier this week in connection to the charges.

McLean also faces some domestic pushback in the wake of the domestic violence charges and students at a high school are seeking to have a concert by the performer canceled. According to the Cape Cod Times, of violence prevention programs at four high schools in Cape Cod recently sent a letter to the interim schools superintendent in Barnstable to request an April show at Barnstable High School be cancelled.

Interim Superintendent William Butler told The Times that school officials are in talks with McLean’s management company over whether the concert should take place. – Staff Writers
