Connecticut Wants More Money For Concert Sales

HARTFORD, CT (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The state of Connecticut has revised their contract for booking the Harkness Memorial State Park. The non-profit company, Summer Music, Inc., has had an exclusive contract with the state for the past two decades.

According to the Hartford Courant, Summer Music paid the state $1 for every ticket sold last year, totalling almost $14,000. Under the new contract the state would receive upwards of $38,000. This extra cost could drown the company, which was loosing money under the old deal.

The issue came to light after a state audit criticized the local government for not seeking other bids for the venue. They were also condemned for not forcing Summer Music to submit attendance numbers and for not collecting on a $64,000 outstanding debt owed by Summer Music.

Paul Bunker, managing director for Summer Music, found it would not be economically feasible for his company to continue putting on shows at Harkness. Instead he has found a much cheaper option, the Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College, which Bunker feels will be adequate for the shows and only costs about 10% of what he was paying to put on a concert at the Harkness park.

The state is currently seeking bids to keep music at the park and is expected to make a decision by the end of the week. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
