Connecticut Man Alleged To Have Robbed A Bank To Impress Taylor Swift

WATCH HILL, RI (CelebrityAccess) — A Connecticut man took fandom to a new level last week when he was alleged to have robbed a bank for cash to impress singer Taylor Swift.

According to the Hartford Courant, police allege that 26-year-old Bruce Rowley from Derby, Connecticut last Wednesday went into a Webster Bank branch in Ansonia, Connecticut and demanded money from a teller.

He subsequently drove to her home $17 million in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, where police say he claimed to have thrown a portion of the $1,600 in ill-gotten bank loot over a fence and onto her property.

“It seemed he wanted to propose to her,” Ansonia Police spokesman Lt. Patrick Lynch told the Hartford Courant. “But she wasn’t home when he went there. He said he threw some of the money over a fence to impress her.”

After discovered that Ms. Swift did not appear to be in residence, Rowley reportedly decided to pack it in for the day and head home but was apprehended by Rhode Island State Troopers after a pursuit.

Lynch told the Courant that Connecticut Police did not learn about the Taylor Swift connection until later.

“We didn’t know about Taylor Swift until our officers picked him up from state police to drive him back to Ansonia. He began to talk all about it in the cruiser,” Lynch told the newspaper.

Rowley was charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny, the Courant reported. Police said the money Rowley claimed to have hurled over the fence has not been recovered.

Rowley was arraigned Friday in Superior Court in Derby.
