Coca-Cola New Music Award Semi-Finalists Announced; Launch College Tour

Five semi-finalists were selected at the CMJ Music Marathon Kick-Off event Oct. 9 at The Bowery Ballroom sponsored by The American Music Awards Presents The Coca-Cola New Music Award. The event also raised contributions for The New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund.

The semi-finalist bands — Carbon Leaf (Richmond, Va.); Fade (Long Beach, Calif.); Jennifer Marks (New York); Live Honey (New York); and Yo Flaco! (Denver) embarked on a college market tour Oct. 11 at Rutgers University in New Jersey, with additional stops in Ohio, California, North Carolina and Texas.

In Texas, the five groups will be judged and narrowed down to three finalists, where they will then go on to the finalist play-off in Los Angeles on Jan. 7, 2002. In an unprecedented opportunity, the winning band will perform live on The 29th Annual American Music Awards telecast on Jan. 9, 2002 on ABC-TV.
