Carnegie Halls Names New Director

Robert Harth has been named Carnegie Hall's new director. For the past 12 years Harth has been chief executive of the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. He will assume his new position in September at the end of the Aspen season.

Prior to his Aspen position, Harth was the vice president and general manager of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which is also the management of the Hollywood Bowl.

Franz Xaver Ohnesorg, the Hall's current director, is taking over the Berlin Philharmonic. His stormy short term tenure saw numerous executives either quit or forced out under his leadership. He had been expected to leave in Auguest but will now leave at the end of the month.

Klaus Jacobs, vice chairman and treasurer of the Carnegie Hall Board, will step in as acting director until Harth starts.
