CAA Puts The Kibosh On Golden Globes Party To Assist Sexual Harassment Victims

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Amid the growing ream of alleged sexual abuse scandals that are currently afflicting the entertainment industry, the Creative Artists Agency announced that they were skipping their annual Golden Globe party to instead assist victims who have been subjected to sexual harassment.

According to a story by the Hollywood Reporter, CAA announced that it would use the funds intended for the party to help establish a legal defense fund for people who have experienced sexual harassment in any industry, not just in the creative sector.

CAA has not settled fully on the details, or if it would partner with other agencies in the endeavor, the Huffington Post added.

CAA indicated that it wasn't completely pulling back from Golden Globes events and stated that they still intend to fete its clients who picked up Golden Globe nominations, including Meryl Streep, Jessica Chastain, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan.

CAA's commitment to supporting the alleged victims of sexual harrassment comes even as the agency itself is caught up on the tumult. Earlier this month, the agency was named in a New York Times report as abetting Harvey Weinstein's alleged behavior. According to the Times report, eight different CAA employees were made aware of Weinstein's alleged behavior, with one executive going so far as to attempt to arrange a meeting between Weinstein and a New Yorker journalist who wrote several significant articles on his alleged behavior.

“We apologize to any person the agency let down for not meeting the high expectations we place on ourselves, as individuals and as a company,” a spokesperson for CAA said in a statement provided to Hollywood news site Deadline. “We unequivocally support those who have spoken out publicly.”
