Bronfman Tribute Raises $5.1 Million-plus For City Of Hope


The City of Hope Spirit of Life Award dinner honoring Vivendi Universal Executive Vice Chairman Edgar Bronfman, Junior broke all previous records, raising over $5 million. Proceeds from the event will establish an honorary research fellowship in Bronfman's honor at the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute. The music and entertainment industry has raised $35 million over the past 27 years for City of Hope.

Held on the Universal Studios backlot, the evening featured a tribute to Motown Records with India.Arie, Bilal, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Roger Daltrey, Terry Dexter, Melissa Etheridge, Jonny Lang, Shelby Lynne, Brian McKnight, Smokey Robinson, Richie Sambora, Sisqo, Gwen Stefani, and The Temptations performing classic Motown songs. Garry Shandling was the host.

Doug Morris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Universal Music Group, served as the Dinner Chair; Jean-Marie Messier, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Vivendi Universal, was the Honorary Dinner Chair; Zach Horowitz, President and Chief Operating Officer, Universal Music Group, was the Major Gifts Chair; Jimmy Iovine, Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M, was the Entertainment Chairman; and Ron Fair, President A&M Records, was the evening's musical director. Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records, presented the "Spirit of Life" award to Bronfman.
