Broadway Sets New Records

Broadway continues to have record breaking years at the box office. The 2000-01 season saw a gross of $665,421,002 – a whopping 10.4 percent increase over the previous year, according to the League of American Theaters and Producers. This marked the tenth straight year that Broadway has set a new record, which is more than four times last year's increase of 2.5 percent.

Part of the increase has to do with increased ticket prices as well as attendance increases, which was up 5 percent to 11,937,962 from 11,365,309.

The average ticket price has increased about $3 per season since 1998-99. It was $55.73 this past year compared to $53.02 the previous season and $50,68 the season before that.
