Bowie's Final Album Hits #1

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, released just days before his death, gave the rocker his first No. 1 album.

According to Nielsen, Blackstar, which was released on Columbia Records, generated sales of 181,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., during the week ending Jan. 14. That figure makes for Bowie's biggest sales week for an album since Nielsen began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991.

The success of Bowie's latest album brings the number of his albums that have cracked the top ten of the The Billboard 200 to 9, including Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, David Live, Young Americans, Station, Let's Dance, ChangesOneBowie and Next Day, which beaked at #2 in 2013.

Bowie claiming the top spot finally brought an end to the tyrannical reign of Adele, who has ruled the charts with an iron fist since the release of her latest record-breaking album 25, which was released in November. – Staff Writers
