Boston Club Johnny D's Closes

BOSTON (CelebrityAccess) — After a 47-year run, Johnny D’s Uptown Restaurant & Music Club in Davis Square hosted its final concert on Sunday before the venue went dark for good.

As previously reported in CelebrityAccess, owner Carla DeLellis announced plans to close the 300-capacity venue last summer, telling the Boston Globe at the time that the decision to close the club was not financially motivated and that she felt it was time for a change.

John and Tina DeLellis, Carla’s parents, originally opened Johnny D’s in 1969 as a country music venue before it became a club and restaurant. Now, DeLellis, who owns the building, is looking to convert it into a multi-story mixed-use facility, with commercial space, and seven residential units.

Boston-based band Revolutionary Snake Ensemble provided the musical entertainment for the venue's farewell, before joining DeLellis and fans for an impromptu 'second line' style parade in Davis Square. – Staff Writers
