Attendance Down At Rainy Fuji Rock Festival

YUZUWA, Japan (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Japanese promoter Smash Japan appeared to take a page from the U.K.'s festival handbook as this year's Fuji Rocks Festival took place this weekend despite a rain system that drenched much of Japan.

Perhaps hindered by the weather, attendance was slightly down at the hugely popular Japanese festival this year, with cumulative figures clocking in at just about 110,000, approximately 10,000 less than 2012.

Headliners for this year's festival included Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and My Bloody Valentine. Other artists on the diverse linup included R&B artist Kendrick Lamar, Skrillex, Portugal, The Man, Foal, Vampire Weekend, The XX, Haim, and Jurrassic 5. International and Japanese artists were on the scene as well, including Ethiopian jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke; Yokohama hip-hop crew Steruss; J-Pop ensemble Sotaisei Riron and multi-instrumentalist indie pop artist Shugo Tokumaru.

First held in 1997 at the base of Japan's iconic Mount Fuji, from whence the festival derives its name, the event has been staged since 1999 at the Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
