Ashley Newton Named President At CMG, EVP At UMG

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Capitol Music Group has named veteran label exec Ashley Newton as their new President of CMG and Executive Vice President of Creative/Special Projects for UMG.

Based out of the company's L.A. offices in the iconic Capitol Tower, Newton's portfolio will include management of day-to-day-to-day operations of the company while collaborating with UMG Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge on variety of music, film and television projects.

Prior to joining CMG and UMG, Newton was the President of Columbia Records, a position he held since January, 2010. While at Columbia, Newton signed and worked with artists including Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams.

He came to Columbia from RCA Records, having served as Executive Vice President of A&R and helming the A&R for multi-platinum, platinum and gold artists such as The Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Velvet Revolver and Ray LaMontagne.

"Lucian and [CMG Chairman] Steve [Barnett] are true leaders who define excellence within our industry, and we share a philosophy that music must always remain the prevailing priority. They have provided me with the opportunity of a lifetime, and it is a real honor to be joining them and their teams in such multi-faceted roles within the two companies," Newton said in a press statement. – Staff Writers
