Apple Weighing A Move Into The Ticketing Biz

CUPERTINO, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A patent has revealed that Apple may be planning on moving into the concert ticket business through its popular iTunes music store application.

According to Billboard, the patent application outlined a system that would let customers purchase concert tickets directly from within iTunes, have the ticket sent to their iPhone, which would allow them entry to an event.

The proposal included a number of other features as well, such as the abilty to purchase live recordings of the event in question and discounts for merch, food and beverages at the event. Other possible features listed in the proposal include song lyrics, venue maps, prepaid or discounted parking and other "exclusive content."

The ticketing system, if implemented, would require some infrastructure support at participating venues and the patent proposal includes several ideas in this regard, including a plan to build a series of kiosks at venues that would support a technology dubbed near field communication or NFC. NFC kiosks would include a chip that would let iPhone let users 'swipe' their handhelds to use their event ticket or to buy discounted merch. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
