Another Australian Festival Goes Down

SYDNEY (CelebrityAccess) — In another blow to Australia's beleaguered festival industry, the touring Holi Play Festival has joined the ranks of canceled events.

Scheduled to make its debut next month, organizers for the event announced its cancellation last week, citing low ticket sales, amidst rumors that the festival was a scam.

The festival had been planned for stops in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in February, with a bill that featured headliners Steve Angello and Afrojack, however fans became suspicious when they noted that the headliners were booked on the same dates in other continents.

The festival’s promoters, Colucci Group, and its CEO George Amaral responded to this last month, stating that there was a scheduling conflict and that they were trying to reschedule some dates “due to conflicting booking dates for headliners Steve Angello and Afrojack”.

Amaral then released a statement released to EDM news site InTheMix on Jan. 6th announcing that the fest was a no-go, stating that the decision to axe the event was driven by low ticket sales, and the internet controversy about the validity of the event. Amaral also took the Australian government to task for the lack of financial support and regulatory environment for music festivals.
