American Bank Center Opens, Construction Continues

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Corpus Christi Caller reported that the American Bank Center opened its doors to the public for the first time, despite the fact that construction is not yet complete.

Boxes still littered the hallways, the newly polished floors were covered in dust and construction workers scrambled to hang lights and test the sound system before the crowd arrived to watch the Rayz hockey game, the first public event in the new arena.

American Bank President Al Jones was impressed with the progress the crew made since his last visit ten days before. He joked around with the paper, saying, “I hope this isn’t some Hollywood set,” referring to the much improved façade of the building.

Derwood Anderson, construction manager of the 10,000 seat American Bank Center as well as both smaller venues within the center – the Selena Auditorium with seating for 2,500 plus and the Bayfront Center Exhibit Hall which seats 6,000 people – summed up the feelings of the arena administration nicely when he told the Caller, “Don’t look too close. The important thing is we got the doors open.” –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
