Allen's Radio Rant Continue To Draw Fire

VANCOUVER (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — A Vancouver-based activist group, Anniversaries of Change has continued to call for manager Bruce Allen to be bumped from the committee organizing the festivities for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

According to the National Post, Henry Yu, a college professor and a spokesman for the Anniversaries of Change joined several other members of the group to call for Allen's ouster at at recent press conference. "We stand up in support of the South Asian community who were directly impugned by Mr. Allen," Yu said.

The group, Anniversaries of Change was formed to examine the views of society towards immigrants in the century after anti-Asian riots swept through Vancouver. Allen came to their attention after making several controversial statements expressing his surprisingly candid views of immigration issues on a radio broadcast on Sept. 27. In the broadcast, Allen opined on a number of Sikh boys who had been rejected for a passport due to their photos being with headcoverings on.

"This is all very simple," Allen said during the broadcast. "We have laws in this country. They are spelled out and they're easy to get a hold of. If you're immigrating to this country and you don't like the rules that are in place then you have the right to choose not to live here." adding that "We don't need you here."

Allen has since tried to back away from his remarks, saying they were not meant to be inflammatory or racist but it hasn't ended calls for his ouster from the Olympic committee. The Olympic Organizing committee (VANOC) seems content to continue with Allen among their ranks however and a media release stated that Allen's activities with he committee "will remain entirely separate and distinct from other work he does, including his public commentary and opinions on the radio." the National Post reported. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
