NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess) — Shaking off the malaise that has afflicted the ratings of numerous televised awards shows, ABC reported that overall viewership was up 12% from last year’s broadcast.

According to ratings released by ABC, the broadcast helped ABC its largest Wednesday audience in 2 years and delivered its highest Adult 18-49 rating on the night in 1 year with more than 10.1 million viewers tuning in.

The CMAs broadcast beat out Fox’s The Masked Singer by 25% among Adults 18-49 (2.0/9 vs. 1.6/8) and NBC’s Chicago Med by 3.9 million Total Viewers (11.3 million vs. 7.4 million.

However, the key demographic of Adults 18-49 only held steady for the CMAs in 2019, coming within 1-tenth of a rating point from the 2018 broadcast.

The CMAs were also a hit on social media and were the #1 most social entertainment program across broadcast and cable last night with 2.4M total social interactions across Instagram (43%), Facebook (33%), and Twitter (25%), +104% over the 2018 telecast, as measured by Nielsen Social.

The 53rd Annual CMA Awards were hosted by Carrie Underwood with special guest hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton and took place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Country music has been enjoying a moment in the spotlight, particularly after more than 30 million tuned in to documentary filmmaker Ken Burns’ magisterial history of country music on PBS in September.
