MIAMI (CelebrityAccess) — A large yacht owned by the Grammy-winning Latin recording artist Marc Anthony has reportedly capsized after catching fire in Miami.
According to Miami Fox affiliate WSVN, the 120-foot long vessel, which was docked at a marina in Miami could be seen with large flames and heavy smoke in its upper decks shortly before it capsized on Wednesday night.
Emergency officials told WSVN that due to the blaze on the ship, firefighters were forced to adopt a “defensive” posture and focused their efforts on protecting nearby vessels.
“When crews arrived there was heavy smoke, a lot of flames on this yacht,” said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll told CBS Miami.
“We know that the boat was docked,” Carroll added in a separate statement to WSVN. “We know that there’s several other expensive yachts that are right next to it, so the focus was to get as much attention to that boat that was on fire but as well as trying to get some of those additional yachts that were neighboring next to it out of the way so we also had to provide some protection for it as well.”
It is unclear what caused the fire aboard the reportedly $7 million dollar pleasure craft, which features 5 cabins with accommodations for up to 12 passengers.
TMZ reported that the yacht had been up for sale earlier this year.
A spokesperson for Anthony told CBS Miami that the singer was out of the country at the time of the blaze and was not commenting. Two crew members who were aboard were able to escape unharmed, the spokesperson said.
