NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Just days after he was abruptly fired from a newly-announced cast gig with Saturday Night Live, comedian Shane Gillis returned to the standup stage.

Gillis, who was announced as a new cast member for SNL last week, alongside Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman, but quickly sparked controversy after videos showing Gillis making homophobic and racial comments about Asian people surfaced.

For his return to the stage on Wednesday night, Gillis was not reluctant to discuss the firing.

“As soon as they decide you’re a bad guy, you’re just alt-right now or something,” Gillis said, according to USA Today. “For real, though, I did not vote for Donald Trump. Look at me: I didn’t, but that was tough. His whole campaign was at me. ‘Are you a fat idiot?’ ‘Yeah dude, what’re we doing?’”

“Everybody’s been like, you can’t say s— and not expect consequences,” Gillis added, per Variety. “I’m fine with the consequences. I’m not arguing. F— it. But I do want everyone to know that I’ve been reading every one of my death threats in an Asian accent.”

Gillis also noted that “of all the presidents I’ve been alive for, Trump would definitely be the funniest one to see get shot.”

Variety previously reported that Gillis was cast on SNL in a bid for the late-night sketch comedy show to appeal to more conservative viewers.
