(CelebrityAccess) — While Apple TV Plus, the much-touted streaming video service has not yet launched, the technology giant has already canceled one of the original shows it was planning for the launch of the platform.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple execs pulled the plug on “Bastards” an eight-episode drama starring Richard Gere about two Vietnam War veterans whose lives take a turn after a woman acquaintance is killed in an accident, sparking the two to launch a shooting rampage.
According to THR, the series was canceled due to “creative differences” between showrunners Howard Gordon and Warren Leight, who wanted to explore dark themes and Apple execs, who reportedly wanted the show to focus on “aspirational content” such as the friendship between the two men.
Admittedly, it’s not hard to see why Apple might be leery about delivering a series about mass shootings to its platform which is intended to be rife with family-friendly content geared for wider audiences.
More details on Apple new streaming service, including the official launch date and price points, are likely to be revealed at Apple’s special event which takes place on Sept. 10th.
