(CelebrityAccess) — Lionsgate’s “Angel Has Fallen” took top honors for the Labor Day Weekend box office, earning a quiet $11.575 million over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to estimates compiled by Comscore.
Now in its second week, “Angel” follows Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) as he battles clear his name after he is framed for an attempted assassination of the President.
The film also stars Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, Nick Nolte, Danny Huston and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, whose previous top credit was 2008’s “Felon” which grossed $36.7m.
Universal’s “Good Boys,” now in its third weekend, took the #2 spot, earning an estimated $9.190 million according to Comscore and bringing its global cume to $70.3M.
Disney’s “The Lion King” held on at #3, earning in $6.7 million from North American theaters for a worldwide cume of $1,562.0M globally. It is the seventh most successful movie of all time.
