CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Mamby on the Beach, a Chicago beachside music festival set for August has been canceled over concerns about its impact on endangered shorebirds.
The festival, which was due to take place on August 23-24, was expected to draw as many as 20,000 fans to Chicago’s Montrose Beach with a lineup that included Flying Lotus, Santigold, Quin XCII, Phantogram, and Bob Moses among others.
In a statement, festival organizers Jam Productions and React Presents, cited circumstances beyond their control for the cancellation of the event.
“These unforeseen issues include significantly higher than average waters of Lake Michigan eliminating the beach portion of our intended site. Additionally, our footprint was affecting by the presence of Great Lakes Piping Plover shorebirds, a federally protected species.
“Despite working tirelessly with the Chicago Park District and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services to find a new location, moving the festival at this late date while still providing a superior beach event experience would be impossible and a disservice to our fans and artists alike.
Festival organizers say tickets will be refunded in the coming days.
