NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Lawrence “Lo” Leathers, a New-York based jazz drummer, was found dead on Sunday near his home in New York on Sunday. He was 37.
According to the New York Times, Leathers was discovered by a neighbor in a stairwell on the first floor of the apartment building where he lived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two individuals, Sterling Aguilar, 28, and Lisa Harris, 41, were arrested on Monday in connection with Leathers’ death, the Times reported.
A well-known performer in New York’s jazz scene, Leathers played as part of jazz vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant’s backing’s band and is featured on two of her Grammy-winning recordings “For One to Love” (2015) and “Dreams and Daggers” (2017).
Leathers was scheduled to perform an after-hours show Monday at Smalls, a club in Greenwich Village, the Times reported.
A native of Michigan, Leathers began to play drums at 15 and attended Juilliard, where he met Aaron Diehl, a pianist, and Paul Sikivie, who would go on to form Ms. Salvant’s backing band.
