ROCHESTER, N.Y. (CelebrityAccess) Joe Dady, 61, one-half of Irish string duo Dady Brothers and a prominent musician in the Rochester, N.Y., area, died from leukemia May 18.
Dady had been diagnosed in October and his brother John donated stem cells in an attempt to cure the cancer. The duo had played in clubs and at festivals and weddings in the area for decades (“anywhere with room for two string players and a microphone” said the Democrat & Chronicle).
“I said to my husband, “If all the people praying (for Joe) can’t help, the rest of us are out luck,'” Dady’s sister, Suzanne Meagher, said. “So many people were pulling for him and praying and it just wasn’t going to happen.”
The Dady Brothers estimate they have performed more than 7,000 shows over the years and both were known as in-demand sidemen.
Joe Dady played fiddle, guitar, banjo, tin whistle, harmonica and an Irish style of bagpipes known as the uilleann pipes, according to the paper. The duo released 11 albums with the most recent being Grand Band in 2014.
