LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Tim Conway, a versatile actor, and comedian who was best known for his roles on The Carol Burnett Show and McHale’s Navy, has died. He was 85.
Conway died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to a statement from his Howard Bragman and his daughter, Kelly Conway.
The love he gave us, and the laughter he gave the world will never be replaced, but will be remembered forever,” Kelly Conway said in a statement. “He is at peace now but I will miss him every second of every day until we meet again in heaven.”
The cause of Conway’s death was not announced, but he reportedly suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus without signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s.
A native of Ohio, Conway did a stint in the military after graduating from Bowling Green State University. After he was discharged, he found work on the air at several local Cleveland television outlets, working on a local morning show, Ernie’s Place and writing comedy sketches in his spare time.
In 1961, Conway got his first big break when he came to the attention of Comedic actress Rose Marie who assisted Conway in landing a spot as a regular player on the Steve Allen Show.
Conway also landed a role in the sitcom McHale’s Navy, playing the bumbling Ensign Charles Parker, Executive Officer of the World War II PT-73.
In 1975, Conway joined the cast of the Carol Burnett Show and remained a regular cast member on the show for the remainder of its run. Notable sketches featuring Conway included The Oldest Man, Mr. Tudball, and Conway’s wordless portrayal of Simba, a lion raised by humans.
More recently, Conway released a series of videos in which he played Dorf, a Scandinavian who provides questionable advice on sports. The series started with Dorf On Golf and also featured actor Vincent Schiavelli.
Over the course of his career, Conway won three Emmys for writing or co-starring on Carol Burnett, as well as two others for later guest spots on Coach (1996) and 30 Rock (2008).
Conway is survived by his wife, and six children from his first marriage, including Tim Conway, Jr. and his daughter Kelly Conway.
