LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Spotify has revealed plans to open a new research and development unit in London, the company’s first major technology hub outside of the U.S. and Sweden.
According to the Telegraph, the new R&D hub will be located in the Adelphi Building with team members moving into their new offices on Tuesday.
“As one of Spotify’s biggest markets, it makes perfect sense to expand our team here, and to tap into the large and diverse talent pool to be found in London,” Spotify UK managing director Tom Connaughton told the Telegraph.
Spotify, which went public in 2018, has grown rapidly since it launched and now boasts a worldwide staff of more than 4,000. A spokesman told the Telegraph that existing staff at the company’s London office would expand to around 550 people, up from the approximately 260 employees it currently employs.
Spotify is just one of several major tech companies that have expanded their presence in London, as the Telegraph noted, Facebook is planning to double its current staffing levels in the UK, while Google is building a new regional headquarters in the city.
